A. Cách phát âm  /r/

Để phát âm, cong lưỡi gần vòm miệng và phát âm bằng miện. Bạn có thể nhắm đầu lưỡi của mình ở ngay sau sườn núi nhỏ phía sau răng; nhưng nó không chạm vào bất kỳ phần nào của miệng.

B. Cách viết

- Âm /r/ thường được viết thành r hoặc rr, đôi khi là wr.

- Nghe và nói theo những câu sau

1 What are you reading?

2 I'm really sorry — your room isn’t ready.

- Một vài người sẽ phát âm /r/ theo cách khác. Hãy nghe một số ví dụ dưới đây và để ý đến sự khác biệt của âm /r/ mà họ phát âm - Khi có chữ cái r ở trong từ, một số người Anh, Wales và Úc chỉ phát âm chữ r khi có nguyên âm đằng sau nó; hoặc có một từ khác đằng sau từ đó. four => no /r/ forty  => no /r/ fourdays => no /r/ four eggs => /r/ is pronounced four hours =>  /r/ is pronounced - Nhưng hầu hết người Mỹ, Scotland, Ireland và người Tây Nam nước Anh luôn phát âm /r/ khi có chữ r trong từ. four => /r/ is pronounced forty => /r/ is pronounced four days => /r/ is pronounced four eggs => /r/ is pronounced four hours => /r/ is pronounced

 

- Chữ cái R trong bảng chữ cái được phát âm là /ɑː/; hoặc là /ɑːr/ với những ai luôn phát âm chữ r.

22.2 Look at the words with r in the spelling. Listen and put a tick (V) by them if the r is pronounced, and a cross (X) if the r is not pronounced.

B: No, never!

3 A: Can you play the guitar?

B: I can play the guitar and sing.

4 A: Are we far away from the road?
