Hướng dẫn viết IELTS Writing Task 1 - Map (Bản đồ) - Học Hay

Có 2 dạng Bản đồ (Map) trong bài thi IELTS Writing Task 1:

- Loại thứ nhất: Map có sự thay đổi về thời gian. Đối với bản đồ này, bạn so sánh sự thay đổi qua từng mốc thời gian.

 

- Loại thứ hai: Map không có thời gian. Đối với dạng biểu đồ này, thay vì miêu tả xu hướng thay đổi theo thời gian, bạn tập trung vào những khu vực lớn/ nhỏ nhất trong bản đồ.

Cấu trúc bài viết của Map cũng tuân theo khuôn mẫu thông thường của dạng bài Writing Task 1, bao gồm 3 phần chính: Introduction, Overview, Body.

 

Với phần Introduction, tương tự với các dạng biểu đồ khác, bạn chỉ cần dùng từ đồng nghĩa để viết lại đề bài. 

 

Với phần Overview:

- Bản đồ có thời gian: miêu tả sự thay đổi chung qua từng mốc thời gian, tránh đi sâu vào chi tiết trong phần Tóm tắt

- Bản đồ không có thời gian: miêu tả các đối tượng chính chiếm vị trí nhiều nhất/nhỏ nhất hiển thị trên bản đồ

 

Với phần thân bài:

- Bản đồ có thời gian: phân chia biểu đồ theo từng giai đoạn thời gian để miêu tả, tốt nhất viết một đoạn văn cho mỗi mốc thời gian 

- Bản đồ không có thời gian: chia phần thân bài thành từng đoạn dựa theo từng phần lớn trong bản đồ

- Introduction: Viết lại đề bài với các từ đồng nghĩa

The maps = The diagrams

Viết lại câu:

The diagrams show Queen Mary Hospital at three different stages in its development: 1960, 1980 and 2000.

 

- Overview: Vì đây là bản đồ có các mốc thời gian khác nhau nên bạn so sánh, đối chiếu để tìm ra sự thay đổi chính để viết phần Tóm tắt

Dễ thấy từ 1 toà nhà vào năm 1960, Bệnh viện đã mở rộng thêm 3 toà nhà mới là Pharmacy, Cancer centre và Nursing School và kích cỡ của từng toà nhà cũng được thay đổi.

 

Viết thành đoạn văn:

During this period, the hospital has increased in size and, in addition to a new nursing school, a cancer centre has been created and extended. Hence the capacity of the car park has been reduced by a half.

 

- Body: vì đề bài bản đồ này cũng đơn giản nên phần Thân bài cung cấp thêm thông tin chi tiết cho từng năm

Năm 1960, bệnh viện (Hospital) nằm cạnh đường chính (Main Road) và một trung tâm mua sắm (Shopping Centre)

Năm 1980, trung tâm mua sắm được tháo bỏ để xây thêm 2 toà nhà mới cho bệnh viện là nhà thuốc (Pharmacy), trung tâm nghiên cứu ung thư (Cancer Centre) và trường đào tạo y tá (Nursing School)

Năm 2000, trung tâm nghiên cứu ung thư (Cancer Centre) được mở rộng ra bằng cách thu nhỏ trường đào tạo y tá (Nursing School) và bãi đậu xe (Car Park)

 

Viết đoạn ta được:

In 1960, the hospital was built close to a main road and next to a shopping centre. A large area behind the hospital was turned into a car park, while the area behind the shopping centre was farmland.

By 1980, the shopping centre had been demolished in order to make way for two additional hospital building which became a pharmacy and a cancer centre. Furthermore, the hospital gained the farmland and converted it into a nursing school.

In 2000, the main hospital building remained unchanged but the cancer centre was extended to cover the entire nursing school. As a result of this, the original car park was divided into two so that it provided a smaller car park and a small nursing school.

- Introduction: Viết lại đề bài dùng từ đồng nghĩa

The diagram shows two proposed sites for a new school for the town of Canterbury and the surrounding area.

 

- Overview: Vì đây là dạng bài không có thời gian nên bạn nhìn tổng thể của bản đồ, tìm xem phần nào chiếm nhiều nhất, khu vực nào rộng nhất/nhỏ nhất để viết Tóm tắt

Trong bản đồ này, phần chính giữa màu xám (Housing) chiếm phần lớn diện tích của bản đồ vùng đồng quê (Countryside) màu xanh.

 

Viết Tóm tắt:

Overall, it can be seen that the majority of the land has been used for housing which is engulfed by the countryside.

 

- Body: chia bản đồ thành 2 phần S1 và S2 và viết đoạn văn miêu tả từng phần tương ứng

 

The first site (S1) is situated in the countryside, to the north-east of the town centre. It is just outside the main housing area of the town and not far from the main road that links Sturry with Canterbury. It would therefore probably be in an ideal location for students coming from Sturry, which is only 5 kilometres away, and those who live on the east side of Canterbury. If there are students coming from Chartham, which is 7 kilometres to the south-west, they would be able to reach the school by taking the main road that runs south-west of Canterbury.

The second site (S2) is located in the town centre itself. There are advantages of this: it makes it practically equidistant for students coming from either Sturry or Chartham. Moreover, it would presumably be relatively easy for students who live in the housing area around the town centre to reach the school. However, because of the no-traffic zone in the town centre, no parent would be able to drive their child all the way to school. This may make travel arrangements difficult for some parents.

Tính từ:

Thay đổi nhanh: Rapid, Quick, Sharp, Swift, Sudden, Wild.

Thay đổi đều: Steady, Gradual, Moderate

Thay đổi chậm: Slow, Gentle.

 

Trạng từ:

Thay đổi nhanh: Rapidly, Quickly, Sharply, Swiftly, Suddenly, Wildly.

Thay đổi đều: Steadily, Gradually, Moderately

Thay đổi chậm: Slowly, Gently.

 

- Từ vựng dùng để miêu tả mức độ của sự thay đổi:

Tính từ:

Thay đổi nhiều: Significant, Huge, Enormous, Steep, Substantial, Considerable, Marked, Dramatic, Abrupt.

Thay đổi vừa: Moderate, Slight.

Thay đổi ít: Minimum (singular), Minima (plural)

 

Trạng từ:

Thay đổi nhiều: Significantly, Hugely, Enormously, Steeply, Substantially, Considerably, Markedly, Dramatically, Abruptly.

Thay đổi vừa: Moderately, Slightly.

Thay đổi ít: Minimally

 

- Động từ dùng để miêu tả sự thay đổi trong việc đọc bản đồ:

Chỉ sự mở rộng:

Enlarged, Expanded, Extended, Made bigger, Developed

 

Chỉ sự phá bỏ:

Removed, Demolished, Knocked down, Pulled down, Torn down, Cut down (cây cối)

 

Chỉ sự thêm vào:

Constructed, Built, Erected, Introduced, Added, Planted (cây cối, rừng), Opened up (cơ sở vật chất)

 

Chỉ sự biến đổi:

Converted, Redeveloped, Replaced, Made into, Modernised, Renovated

 

*Lưu ý: Các động từ trên đều được chia theo thể bị động.

 

- Từ vựng dùng để chỉ vị trí trên bản đồ:

to the north of: phía Bắc của…

to the east of: phía Đông của…

in the west: phía Tây của…

to the south of: phía Nam của…

north-west of: nằm về hướng Tây Bắc của…

 

- Giới từ dùng để chỉ vị trí trên bản đồ:

on: ở trên

next to: bên cạnh

nearby, near: gần

from… to…: từ … đến… (from north to south: từ phía nam lên phía bắc)

between: ở giữa

beside: bên cạnh

over: phía trên

along: chạy dài bên cạnh

 

- Từ vựng dùng để chỉ hướng (directions):

The maps below show the centre of a small town called Islip as it is now, and plans for its development.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

 

The diagrams illustrate some proposed changes to the central area of the town of Islip.

It is clear that the principal change to the town will be the construction of a ring road around the centre. Various other developments with regard to shops and housing will accompany the building of this road.

Looking at the map of Islip as it is now, we can see that the main road runs through its centre from east to west. The second map shows the planned pedestrianisation of this road. Traffic will be diverted on to a dual carriageway that will form a ring around the town centre.

Currently, there is a row of shops along either side of the main road. However, it appears that the shops along the north side of the new pedestrian street will be demolished to make way for a bus station, shopping centre, car park and new housing area. The shops along the south side of the street will remain, but it seems that the town’s park will be reduced in size so that more new houses can be built within the ring road.

The map below is of the town of Garlsdon. A new supermarket (S) is planned for the town. The map shows two possible sites for the supermarket.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

 

The map shows two proposed locations for a new supermarket for the town of Garlsdon. 

The first potential location (S1) is outside the town itself and is sited just off the main road to the town of Hindon, lying 12 kilometres to the north-west. This site is in the countryside and so would be able to accommodate a lot of car parking. This would make it accessible to shoppers from both Hindon and Garlsdon who could travel by car. As it is also close to the railway line linking the who towns to Cransdon (25 km to the south-east), a potentially large number of shoppers would also be able to travel by train.

In contrast, the suggested location, S2, is right in the town centre, which would be good for local residents. Theoretically, the store could be accessed by road or rail from the surrounding towns, including Bransdon, but as the central area is a no-traffic zone, cars would be unable to park and access would be difficult.

Overall, neither site is appropriate for all the towns, but for customers in Cransdon, Hindon and Garlsdon, the out-of-town site (S1) would probably offer more advantages.
